Martin Library Honors Eric Menzer

YORK, PA – The Martin Library Honors Committee will recognize Eric Menzer as its fall 2024 honoree during an upcoming ceremony and reception. The event will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, October17 at Martin Library in York. Individuals interested in attending should register at donate.yorklibraries.org by October 3.

“Eric’s enthusiasm for encouraging York County youth to read is commendable,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “We are delighted to be honoring this outstanding community leader who recognizes and values the game changing power of literacy.”

The honors ceremony will feature tributes to Menzer by several guest speakers. They include Anne Druck, business development coordinator for the Ben Druck Door Company; C. Kim Bracey, CEO at the YWCA; and Bill Shipley, chair of the Shipley Group.

Menzer is a 1986 graduate of the University of Maryland. His work experience includes time with the York County Transportation Authority (now rabbittransit), the City of York, and Wagman Construction. He became president of the York Revolution in 2010 and continues to serve in that capacity today. With the York Revolution, Menzer is an active partner with York County Libraries and numerous reading initiatives in York County. Team mascot DownTown has visited library story times countywide and welcomed 800-minute achievers during the annual SummerQuest Readers Celebration at WellSpan Park. The York Revolution also champions Boomer’s Book Club and supports the York Literacy Institute’s Buck a Book® Reading Program.

Active in the community, Menzer serves as board chair for both Better York and Susquehanna National Heritage Area. He also serves on the boards of Downtown Inc., Community First Fund, the York City Parks Conservancy, the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, and Traditions Bank.

A key component of the Martin Honors event is establishing a perpetual fund to purchase books in the honoree’s name. The Martin Library Honors Committee is chaired by Lori Rene Weyant, with members Robert Cox, Liz Dellinger, Robert F. Lambert, Donna Pullo, Kelley Gibson, Patrick Ball, and honorary member Lynne Danyo.

Serving the community since 1935, Martin Library is one of York County’s oldest libraries and is a branch of York County Libraries. Located at 159 E. Market Street in the City of York, it is recognized as a PA Forward Gold Star library for its outstanding provision of programs and resources to community members. Martin Library also holds the distinguished honor of being the first library to receive the Library of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Library Association.
