Jennifer Foxworthy to Speak at Youth Empowerment Summit for Teens
Registration Open Through September 19

YORK, PA – York County students in grades 9-12 have one more week to register for the upcoming York County Libraries Youth Empowerment Summit (YES) on October 3. The free event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Teens area at Martin Library, located at 159 E. Market Street in York. Motivational speaker Jennifer Foxworthy will deliver this year’s keynote address “I Can! I Will! I Did! – Succeeding Against All Odds.”

“If you have ever had the opportunity to be in the audience when Jennifer Foxworthy is speaking, then you already know how seamlessly she engages everyone right from the start,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “We are delighted that she is this year’s featured YES presenter. Her message encourages teens to persevere in challenging times, to feel empowered to make positive change, and to develop a work ethic to achieve their dreams.”

Foxworthy is a graduate of William Penn Senior High School, a retired Navy veteran and founder of Inspirationally Speaking, LLC. In addition to her presentation, the event includes a variety of breakout sessions exploring everything from higher education and career options to personal wellness and volunteer opportunities. Registration for the free event runs through Thursday, September 19 online at yorklibraries.org/yes.

“Teens are our future. This annual summit seeks to introduce them to a sampling of the many possibilities and choices they have for life after high school,” says York County Libraries Youth Services Director Mindy McDonnell. “YES provides an opportunity to meet a variety of local professionals who are enthusiastic about sharing their expertise with York County’s teens.”

YES is the recipient of statewide accolades from the Youth Services Division of the Pennsylvania Library Association. In 2019, it was awarded the first Humanities in Action Award; a Best Practices Award created in partnership with the Pennsylvania Humanities Council. In addition, it received the coveted David J. Roberts EXCEL Award which recognizes the “best” of the Best Practices award winners.
