At any of our libraries, you’ll find resources to connect with and explore job opportunities. Here on yorklibraries.org, we also have a number of online resources to help you learn skills and information relevant to a variety of career paths—all provided FREE with your library card. Resources at the Library At all of our libraries, library visitors can get Internet access for free, either on one of our computers or by using our free Wi-Fi with their own devices. Search on your own, or access any of our great online resources (see below) to get started. Printing is available for a small fee, as well. Our helpful staff can answer basic computer questions, but we cannot provide career advice and we cannot type any information for you. However, visitors are welcome to bring a person to help them if they need help typing or answering career questions. Many (though not all) of our libraries can also send and receive faxes—see more information below. Learn New Skills There’s always something new to learn! Whether you are moving forward in your current career path or shifting to a new one, these resources can help you get started. DigitalLearn If you are new to computers, haven’t used them for a while, are a little unsure and uncomfortable, or just need a bit of a refresher, DigitalLearn offers courses to help you tackle technology at your own pace and gain the confidence you need to succeed. Access Driving Tests If your dream job requires you to have a PA Driver’s License, prepare for your PA Driver’s exam here! Note: This is not the official PA Driver’s License Test. It is a learning tool only. Access PA Online Learning Self-directed learning in Niche Academy covering computer basics, finding jobs on Indeed and LinkedIn, returning to the workforce after a gap, and more. Access Job & Resume Help Need to freshen up your resume? Looking for interview tips? Check out these three resources for job seekers. PA Job Resources Centralized website where you can access PA CareerLink, the PA Employment site, learn valuable job skills on SkillUp™ PA, explore career guides and planners, explore educational options, find statistics about different job fields, and more. Access Resume Builder A super simple, easy-to-use basic resume tool. Click, enter your information into the form, and send yourself an email with a PDF copy of a basic resume. Access Got Resume Builder A web-based resume writing tool that helps you write each section, format it to look professional, and download it in many formats. Access FAQs Answers to your questions about job resources at the library! Is there a fee to use the computers at the library? No, our computers do not cost anything to use. However, time limits may apply if others are waiting to access computers. Do you have word processing software available? Yes, our public access computers have Microsoft Word available for use. However, your documents will not be saved to our computers—make sure to email your documents to yourself before leaving! Flash drives are available for purchase. May I save my documents (resumes, cover letters, etc) to the library’s computers to work on them later? No, when a computer session is ended or times out, all documents are deleted, even if you have saved them to the computer. We recommend emailing documents to yourself or saving them onto remote storage. You may bring your own storage, or flash drives are available for purchase. I need to take a proctored exam for a job/entry into a school. Does the library offer proctoring? Yes, several of our libraries do offer proctored exams. Fees apply. Contact the library to set up an appointment for proctoring and to review fees. Proctoring is offered at Dillsburg Area Public Library, Mason-Dixon Public Library, Paul Smith Library of Southern York County, and Red Land Community Library. Learn More I need an email address for a job application. Can the library help? Yes, library staff can help you set up an email account. A cell phone may be helpful to bring along. However, while we can guide you through the process, staff cannot enter or type information into a computer for you. You are welcome to bring a helper along with you if you need someone to type for you. I need training or a certificate to be qualified for a job. Where do I find information? PA CareerLink’s website has much more than just job openings. CareerLink can help you find training opportunities, apprenticeships, grants to pay for education, and more. I need to send a fax or receive a fax. Can I do that at the library? Yes! Some libraries can only send faxes, while others can send and recieve faxes.
